This Stoptober, we’re encouraging everyone who smokes to take the challenge: go smoke-free for 28 days and see the difference it can make.
Why Quit Smoking?
Quitting smoking reduces the risk of serious conditions like heart disease, stroke, cancer and respiratory illness.

In the short-term, quitting also brings rapid and lasting benefits:
20 minutes after quitting: Heart rate and blood pressure begin to drop.
48 hours: Carbon monoxide is eliminated from the body; taste and smell improve.
2–12 weeks: Circulation improves and lung function increases.
One year: Risk of heart disease is halved.

Quitting also improves mental wellbeing, boosts energy and can save you thousands of pounds a year. Below shows the average savings over the course of a year if you smoke ten cigarettes per day.

Quitting Works – And We’re Here to Help
Evidence shows that you're three times more likely to quit successfully with support than by going it alone. At Reed Wellbeing, we’ve helped thousands of people quit smoking for good, including 64% of participants in our programmes.
We combine behavioural coaching with proven treatment options:

Tips for a Successful Quit Attempt
Follow the “Not a Puff” rule: Set a quit date and commit to not having even a single puff of a cigarette.
Change your routine: Swap out foods or drinks that trigger cravings.
Get moving: Even a short walk can reduce cravings.
Stay social: Surround yourself with non-smokers, communicate your goals and ask for support.
Keep your hands busy: Use a pen, straw, or stress ball to manage habits. This helps disrupt habitual patterns, reduce cravings via distraction and can support stress management.
Make a list of your motivations to quit: Read it when you need a reminder.
